International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2016| Denpasar

Through the streets of Denpasar, hundreds of people with a disability and locals marched together in solidarity to promote inclusion, equality and to celebrate their abilities on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd).  This year’s theme was centred around achieving the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to build an inclusive and equitable world for persons with a disability.

People who were blind, deaf, confined to a wheelchair or had invisible disabilities came to the event – but they’re labels which don’t define them nor capture their vast capabilities or talents. They danced, sang, performed, laughed together and shared friendship because they came with a spirit of openness and to break down social barriers.

Joining them on the day were notable Balinese representatives, including the Head of Social Government of Denpasar City, who handed out awards to various local people with a disability.
